The U.S. Army drafted him to serve for a couple years during the Vietnam War and he is known for work with the American Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Connecticut; coming to New York in their Broadway bound production of Moses Gunn's Othello.
After a second Broadway role, in David Merrick's There's One in Every Marriage, he relocated to Hollywood and was soon cast in recurring or co-starring TV roles on Newhart (1982), The Greatest American Hero (1981), The Devlin Connection (1982), and on film with Steve Martin in Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982).
