After obtaining a BA in Communication from Michigan State University, she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and began a career in public relations and marketing. While in her early 20s, she started and ran her own advertising and event-marketing firm, writing and producing radio commercials and planning large scale events.
Still in love with the theater, she also performed in professional theater productions, and was noticed by an agent who began representing her and sending her out on auditions. A busy career as an on-camera spokesperson and commercial voice-over talent followed, as well as acting roles in television.

While still at E!, Sena was among the few front-runners in a race to fill the shoes of Kathie Lee Gifford, co-hosting one of the country's most popular morning shows, Live with Kelly and Ryan (1983).
Soon after, she was seen filling in on the nationally syndicated entertainment news show, Extra with Billy Bush (1994).In 2004, Sena began to refocus her career on the news industry, and took a position with the CBS news station in Dallas, anchoring their weekend news show and writing and producing lifestyle and entertainment stories.
She was then tapped by the Fox News Channel in New York, as a prime time news anchor on the international cable news station.
