Since her start as a folk singer, Amelita Baltar shone with her original voice and the special dramatic character she conferred to all the song she sang.After recording her first LP as a soloist in 1968, she was awarded first prize at the Festival National Del Disco, in Mar Del Plata.

That very same year, she was heard by Astor Piazzolla, he chose her to sing the leading role in "little opera" "Maria De Buenos Aires", written in collaboration with the poet Horacio Ferrer.The show was made into records, and it was the starting point of a long collaboration with Piazzolla and Ferrer, who found in Baltar their perfect singer for a series of compositions which stand for the '70 in the history of Argentine popular music, the greatest expression of which was "Balada Para Un Loco".

Piazzolla and Baltar toured Latin America. They moved to Europe, and in 1971, she signed a contract with the French TV, the Italian TV, the German TV, and the Swiss. They premièred the oratorio "El Pueblo Joven" in the German TV.

"Balada para un Loco" was released in France.In 1972 they premièred "La Primera Palabra" at the Onda Nueva festival in Caracas Venezuela. A few months later they premièred "Las Ciudades" at the Maracanazinho in Rio de Janeiro, for the "7ª Festival Internacional de la Canción".

At the end of 1972 she recorded folk music.In 1973 Baltar decided to return to Argentina and in collaboration with Susana Rinaldi and Marikena Monti they did "Tres Mujeres para el Show", which was great success.

In 1974, after 20 presentations in Brazil, she went to Europe, for several auditions for the French TV and Italian's TV. Her first LP was released in Spain. Amelita performed at the "Olympia" in Paris and return to Argentina to participated in her second film for the R.

A.I. (the first one was made in Germany). She was awarded first prize in her category as singer. She performs in Sao Paulo, at the Municipal de Rio de Janeiro, and Argentina.She was awarded the Palma de Mallorca prize, for her singing of "Los Pájaros Perdidos".

In 1975 she separated from Astor Piazzolla, and returned to Argentina. She made several presentations in South America.1977, another stage in her career : the "music hall". She performed with Jorge Luz in "Cocktail para Tres" which was a complete success.

1978 she made recording of traditional tangos in Brazil, with arrangements by Mederos and Alchourrón. She recorded another LP in Italy.In 1979 she featured in the Angeles's "Coconoote Grove" and a year later, she took part in the musical comedy "El Club", she has entered the theatre, such a good actress she is.

A couple of years later, she faced a new challenge: Tango-Rock show with the music of A. Favero, premièred in Sao Paulo at first, and Buenos Aires soon followed.In 1988 Baltar recorded a new LP "Como Nunca", which she presented in Argentina and Chile.

In February 1990, she travelled to Holland; the film director A. Agresti called her to participate in the film "Luba". She performed at "Trottoirs de Buenos Aires" in Paris for the six weeks.Amelita sang in the "Kleine Komedie" in Amsterdam, in the "Leidse Schowbourg" in Leiden and for Holland's and Spanish's TV.

In 1991 she took part in the "1ª Festival Nacional de Tango de Argentina" at Cosquín. In April she returned to Paris and gave five concerts in the "TLP Dejazet".She performed at the opening of the 22nd.

Festival of Photography of Arles, at the "Botanique" theatre of Brussels, and in Bonn, Germany. In November she performed in Paris.In 1992, she sang at the Teatro General San Martin in Buenos Aires and in the Honorable Consejo Deliberante de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

In collaboration with the "Juan de Dios Filiberto" orchestra, she presented the concert "Amelitango" to celebrate her thirty years as a singer, at the "Teatro Nacional Cervantes" Buenos Aires, and in Mendoza, San Juan, San Luis, Rosario and many other cities of the interior of Argentina.

In 1993, Amelita performed in Buenos Aires and Paris ("New Morning"). Also at the "Stadsschowburg Adam" theatre in Amsterdam.In early 1994, she recorded a CD with music of Piazzolla. In May she gave two concerts at the "Auditorium Des Halles" in Paris and Julio Bocca were invited.

Back in Argentina she sang at the Teatro San Martin and at the Fundación Banco Patricios.1995 she sang at the "Auditorio" in Rosario. In March she took part in the play "Por Amor a Arlt" at the teatro Alvear, Buenos Aires.

In November she took part in "Discépolo Y Nosotras" with Tania. April 1996, Baltar performed at Porto Alegre, at the "O.S.P.A" theatre.She close "Astortango", the biggest tribute that Piazzolla ever had.

In October, she gave and two concerts at the theatre Hebraica of Sao Paulo. Two months later, she returned with an invitation from the Ballet Stagium, to sing in the show "Tangamente" (inspired by her career).

The same show was presented in March 1997, at the Teatro Municipal of Sao Paulo, of Rio de Janeiro and at the Teatro Nacional de Brasilia.In November of 1997, she was awarded the Muden prize for her brilliant career at the Congreso de la Nación.

In early 1997 she toured France: Toulon, Marseille, Nantes, Le Vesinet, Villebon, and Brussels, Belgium. She sang with the "Orquesta de Tango de Buenos Aires" at the Teatro San Martin for F.I.L. of Guadalajara, Mexico.

In March of 1998 she did her tour of the year in the inner France and made rehearsal in the famous "Banlieues Blues Festival" of Paris. Back in Argentina Amelita did several shows in Buenos Aires and others provinces where she gets excellents comments by the press and people.

1999 "Balada para un loco" 30 Th.'s Anniversary is the year where she released her new album, "Referencias" for Warner. And carrying out a tour that includes the interior of France, Geneva and Istanbul.

In 2001 she released her last CD "Amelita de Todos los Tangos" by Warner Music. To present her CD she made a tour giving concerts in several Argentinean cities and at "Maipo Theatre" in Buenos Aires. She gave a concert in Los Angeles, United States in October.

Back in Argentina, Amelita Baltar closed the celebrations of the "International Music Day" giving a great concert with "Juan de Dios Filiberto Orchestra".This concert took place in "Republic Square" in Buenos Aires besides the Obelisco the monumental Buenos Aires City emblem.

In April, 2001, her own TV show "Amelitango" was on live in Argentina and in several Latin-American countries. Her TV show was distinguished by the Buenos Aires Congress for being of "Cultural Interest".

During the last years, Amelita Baltar presented her show in cities like Switzerland, Holland, France, Finland and Spain. Actually, Amelita has return from Turkey, where she presented "La diva Del tango" (show) and she is preparing her new electronic tango CD, coming up in a few months
