His coming of age drama, "Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass" was Vietnam's official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 89th Academy Awards. His films have won numerous Golden Lotus Awards, organized by Vietnam's Cinema Department, including Best Director and Best Feature Film for "Scandal (2012)" and Best Director and Best Feature Film for "Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass (2015)".
