He grew up in Canton, Ohio and later settled in Los Angeles, California. Tragically, he died of AIDS in his early thirties.
He was a close friend of his Little House on the Prairie co-star Alison Arngrim. The actress, who played Tracy's character's wife (Nellie Oleson) in the series, became an AIDS awareness and prevention activist following Tracy's 1986 death.
