Before Fame

He studied at the Vienna University of Technology with the famed Adolf Loos; he also studied with other notables such as Max Fabiani and Karl Mayreder. He traveled to Italy and the Balkans in 1912 on a study trip with Sigmund Freud's son, Ernst Ludwig Freud.

He was included in MoMA's 1932 exhibition on modern architecture, an exhibition that was curated by Philip Johnson and Henry-Russell Hitchcock.

Family Life

He was born into a prosperous Jewish family; his father, Samuel Neutra, ran a metal foundry, and his mother, Elizabeth Glaser, was an IKG Wien member. He married the daughter of an Architect, Dione Niedermann, in 1922.

He designed the Von Sternberg House in the San Fernando Valley, of which Writer Ayn Rand was the second owner.
