Göransson was born and raised in Linköping, Sweden. He moved to America in 2007 for film scoring. He cites Jazz & Blues as some of his early influences and what he was, "raised on".
He composed the score to the critically acclaimed drama Fruitvale Station, based on the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Oscar Grant on January 1, 2009.
