He played college basketball for the University of Memphis. During his 1996 sophomore season, he was named a second team All-American. 

Trivia

He was drafted seventh overall in the 1996 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers. He spent five years with the Memphis Grizzlies between 2001-2006.

He had seven children with his ex-wife Sherra Wright, who was indicted on first-degree murder charges in December 2017 in connection with his death.
