Lola (Laura) was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada to Anne and Keith Cote; both of whom were high school teachers and volleyball coaches. She grew up performing as a multi-sport athlete, excelling particularly in indoor volleyball where she went on to represent Team Canada in international competition.

Lola graduated with a degree in marketing and business administration from The University of Memphis in Tennessee, where she played NCAA D1 volleyball for the Memphis Tigers. By the end of her university career, she had been recognized as an all-American, set the university's all-time records for assists, as well as aces in a match, and was nominated for the prestigious Elma Roane Award.

She went on to play volleyball professionally in Bucharest, Romania before retiring her jersey and returning home to Canada.She has since moved to Vancouver, where she graduated from the Vancouver Film School's full-time acting program in 2014.
