Their methodical approach to life ensures that nothing is left to chance, and although they are often tender, their heart might be closed for the outer world. This is a sign often misunderstood, not because they lack the ability to express, but because they won’t accept their feelings as valid, true, or even relevant when opposed to reason. Some Lin Que Ayoung images

Lin Que Ayoung is a writer, director, producer who believes she was groomed from the beginning to be an innovative and fearless storyteller. Ever since she can remember, her mind has been a world bursting with extraordinarily vivid visual poetry.

She was the fifth born in the midst of three older brothers, one older sister, and one younger sister. Her mom referred to her as the serious introspective middle one. Her childhood survival depended on the creation of a tangibly vibrant inner world furnished with a captivating aural component.

Evidently at six, her mind was very much aware of the importance of narrative, mise-en-scène, casting, directing, and sound design. These elements helped her produce a safe, comical, and adventurous alternative to, what was then, a very harsh reality.

Editing out the unwanted parts of her life would become second nature. Her tendency to engross herself in fantasy cultivated a profound connection to television and film. As she grew older, she went from hanging on her block in Queens to roaming the streets of New York City.

The novelty and eccentricity of downtown Manhattan stimulated her very limited conception of creative expression. By the time she was a 17, music became a welcomed addition to her many forms of escape.

The raw, yet compelling, pulse of street poetry inspired her to write. Her need for artistic release coupled with her never quit attitude carried her through three major record deals as a Hip Hop Performer and Lyricist.

As time progressed, a heightened sexism and misogyny began to penetrate this genre of music. Being in front of the camera only exacerbated the pressures of fitting into this predetermined box of stereotypes.

What was once inspirational now enraged and disheartened her. Despite its imperfections, her career in music showed her the transformative nature of art. She had grown into a woman who felt a great sense of purpose and accountability.

Lin Que knew that in order to maintain artistic freedom, it was imperative for her to change the medium she used to reach the masses. There was a tiny voice coaxing her to go back to school and immerse herself in one of her first loves, film.

As a two-time winner of the BAFTA-NY Scholarship, she was granted the opportunity to interact with professional filmmakers and other like-minded individuals. Her internship in the development department at Bobby Flay's Rock Shrimp Productions sparked a greater interest in pre-production.

She learned about the importance of research and how it promotes a vaster sense of truthfulness to any production. Throughout her training, collaboration has been the most rewarding byproduct of her studies.

Lin Que writes, directs, and produces films that provoke thought and excite human connection. She embraces and challenges the notion of point of view. She believes our attitudes and perceptions taint our overall outlook on life.

This vision colors how we assess situations and construct connections with others as well as within ourselves. While dissimilar points of view have instigated wars, they have also provided us with great opportunities for growth.

Therefore, she appreciates the importance of us owning our stories, but deems it essential to acknowledge the human tendency to invalidate stories with opposing viewpoints. Consequently, Lin Que is committed to utilizing all forms of storytelling to cultivate her artistic boldness with the hope that her creative authenticity can touch and awaken the authenticity in others.
