After college she attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice and obtained a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology. During her final semester, she worked at Bellevue's prison ward to complete her degree.

Amato has gotten positive reviews for her portrayal of the character "Raven" in Blue Eyed Prodcutions Film "Under The Raven's Wing." The film was rated the Best Film of 2007 by BumsCorner.com. Nic Brown stated "Kimberly's performance was exceptional.

"Most recently, Kimberly has gone behind the camera and directed, starred, co-wrote and edited the TV pilot "Party Girl." The pilot won the Golden Ace Award from the Las Vegas International Film Festival and the Aloha Accolade Award for Excellence in Filmmaking from the Honolulu International Festival.

The original teleplay for "Party Girl" was a semi-finalist in the 2008 Page International Screenwriting Awards and a semi-finalist in the Acclaim Scripts Contest.
