Josh Kimmel was born on July 19, 1978, in Montreal, Canada, to Marsha and Allan Kimmel. At only 10 months old, he was brought into the water, and was able to swim without the aid of a teacher. By the time Josh reached the age of 6, he began swimming competitively.
At this time, he was ranked one of the top swimmers in the country for this age group and was recognized as one of the Top Olympic Prospect Swimmers (TOPS). At the age of 19, he qualified for the National Championships, and had the opportunity to compete around the world in places such as Paris, Israel & Trinidad.
Josh had very high expectations for the 2000 Olympic Trials, but his dreams came to a crashing halt when he got word of his fathers' tragic death only 3 months before the competition.At 21, after graduating from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Arts in English, he decided to give his true passion of acting a real attempt.
Josh immediately landed roles in Montreal, Toronto, New York & Los Angeles. He got one of his first credits on an episode of ER (1994), which was directed by John Wells. In 2006, he started up the production company Running Hooks Pictures, which has produced various projects including the T.
V. series The Future Life of Jake (2009) and the film One Love (2009).
