After dropping out of Ohio State University, he joined the US Army in 1978.John spent 21 years in the Army, as a armored cavalry soldier, aeroscout aviator, and an Apache attack helicopter pilot.

John graduated the US Naval Test Pilot School in 1989. He worked as an experimental test pilot until his retirement from the Army in 1999.Working for Sikorsky Aircraft Company as an engineering test pilot, John has appeared in many Discovery Channel and The Learning Channel documentaries and specials.

His first role in a major motion picture came as a Comanche pilot on the Univeral Studios "The Hulk." John fits his experimental test flying in and around his acting career.
