Dunn has been acting non-stop since the age of 5 mainly doing TV commercials and then when he got older he played Thadeus 'Tad the Cad' Gardner Martin replacing Matthew Anton in the daytime soap All My Children (1970) from 1978-81 and won the "Second Annual Youth in Film Awards" for "Best Young Actor" in a daytime TV series.
He was then burned out on acting at that time and left the series but however, he read for the role of Kenny for the independent horror/slasher film Sleepaway Camp (1983). He didn't pursue acting much more after the film's release but he did remain friends with Felissa Rose who played Angela in the film.
He worked for HBO for 9 years as a marketer for many of their TV series and took a job as Vice President of Marketing for a company called On2 which is a worldwide leader in streaming video over the web.
Official Sleepaway Camp Website webmaster Jeff Hayes tracked John down and brought him back to the public eye for a Sleepaway Camp Reunion Fangoria Convention on Saturday, April 7, 2001 now that the film became a cult classic.
