Former college and professional football coach known for being the father of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway. His coaching career included a stint at San Jose State, where he beat his son's Stanford team in 1981 and 1982.
He played football at Washington State University, but his career was prematurely ended by knee surgery after one year. He landed his first college coaching job at Grays Harbor College in 1961.
