Gracie Kim is an American actress. Born in Burbank, California, the daughter and granddaughter of Korean writers, Kim began writing and acting in Shakespeare plays in elementary school. She moved with her family to Koreatown, Los Angeles when she was 9 months old.
She is of Korean heritage, and she attended Hobart Elementary School, John Burroughs Junior High School, Pacific Palisades High School and holds a degree in English literature from the University of California, Los Angeles.
After Kim obtained her B.A. in English Literature, she was contemplating law or journalism for grad school. She ended up choosing acting school instead. Kim met her her acting teacher, Bill Alderson, in 2009 and studied under him for almost 3 years.
He is considered one of the three "ancients" of the Sanford Meisner Technique, and Kim credits him on "not only teaching me how to live truthfully under the given imaginary circumstances but teaching me how to live.
" She also considers herself indebted to Ranjiv Perera at the Sanford Meisner Center for Arts, whom she met in 2017, for taking her in as a student. Kim also published her first children's novel, Please Love Umma in March of 2017.
