In 1986, Jeinsen placed second in the Miss Germany contest and won the title, Miss Hannover, in another beauty pageant. Elke was the Playmate of the Month in the October, 1986 issue of the German edition of "Playboy".

She lived and worked for a year in Milano, Italy in 1991; she had a regular part as a "Cin-Cin Girl" on the Italian TV game show, Colpo grosso (1987). Jeinsen was the Playmate of the Month in the May, 1993 issue of "Playboy"; she holds the distinction of being the first German Playmate to also pose for the American edition of "Playboy", has appeared in a record nineteen international editions of "Playboy", and has done a handful of "Playboy" videos and special editions.
