Dimitar Mitovski was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.He started painting at an early age and was accepted to the Professional Scenic Arts High School in Plovdiv, where he graduated in the early 1980s. While in school, Mitovski made his first short animation film on 16mm - "Absurd".

The film received an award at a short film festival and was re-shot professionally on 35 mm at the Bulgarian Animation Studios. While actively pursuing his interest in painting, Mitovski made two more short films and also played drums.

With his classmates he formed "Band Falconeti Electric" - an electric-rock band, which recorded two unreleased albums. His passion for music was instrumental to his future career as a music video director.

Mitovski continued his education in the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts "Krastyo Sarafov" specializing in directing for film and animation under Professor Donyo Donev. His first breakthrough came while still a student with the video "Composer" of the legendary Bulgarian pop-rock band FSB (Grammy award winners in 1990).

With its innovative vision "Composer" soon became the most popular and beloved music video in the country. A few years later Mitovski made a feature-length documentary about the band, noted again for its brave visual style and innovative approach to the genre.

His video of FSB's song "High" was awarded Best Bulgarian Music Video of the Year in 1997. Mitovski continued directing music videos and commercials, winning many local and international awards for his work.

His first major fiction film recognition came in 2005 when his short film "Get the Rabbit Back"(co-directed with Kamen Kalev ) was nominated for the Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2007 the follow-up short "Rabbit Troubles"(also co-directed with Kamen Kalev) was nominated again for the Critics' Week.

The two shorts are part of a surreal trilogy with thriller elements. The third film is in pre-production.In 2009 Mitovski directed his first feature film "Mission London", an eccentric political satire based on Alek Popov's novel of the same name.

The film opened on April 16, 2010 and topped the Bulgarian box office, becoming the highest grossing 2D film in Bulgaria since the fall of Communism in 1989.Mitovski is among the founding producers of SIA Corp.

and Camera Ltd - two of the most successful film and television production companies in Bulgaria. Besides feature films, the portfolio of the companies includes more than 2000 commercial videos and productions of some of the most popular international non-scripted television formats.

In 2010 SIA and Camera started the TV series "Glass Home" (original idea by Dimitar Gotchev) in a joint production with the Bulgarian broadcast leader bTV. In its first season "Glass Home" became the most successful Bulgarian TV series of all time.

Together with Dimitar Gotchev and Rosen Tzankov, Dimitar Mitovski serves as Executive Producer on "Glass Home".As an artist, Mitovski was one of the co-founders of the Artists' Group "Egde" in 1989. In 1995 together with a small group of leading Bulgarian painters, he founded "Disco 95".

Both artists' groups are emblematic for the contemporary "unconventional" Bulgarian art movement of the 1990s and 2000s. At present, Dimitar Mitovski works as a producer, director, screenwriter and artist.
