Actor, Comedian, Writer and Motivational Speaker Charles Andrew Payne spent his formative years growing up in Grenada being raised by his grandparents along with a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. "When you're the youngest of fourteen people living in a three-room shack, in a third world country you learn quickly to speak up or be ignored" he says.
That ability served him well when he traveled as an unaccompanied minor to Vancouver, Canada at the age of eight. Being the only black kid in his school, with a strange accent and no knowledge of first world culture he learned to use his wits to make friends and fit in.
Years later those same friends thinking that he should tell his stories on stage signed him up for an open mic night without telling him and forced him onto the stage when his name was called. The experience was so enjoyable that he has been doing comedy ever since playing club dates across Canada and the U.
