Football coach and player who coached the Penn State Nittany Lions to the second unbeaten season in the school's history in 1947-48. He served as the head coach there for 19 years and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1954.

He was born in Corning, New York and attended Penn State from 1914 to 1916. He served in the U.S. military during World War I before returning to the school in 1919.
