She ultimately settled in California upon getting married there. Anna has had to reinvent herself multiple times, changing homelands, learning new languages and cultures, changing careers, losing family and friends, enduring a painful divorce - and facing cancer, twice now.
In 2012, she was a stay at home mom in Solana Beach, California. She was building the family dream house and life seemed pretty "perfect" - at least on the outside - when life brought her to the proverbial "ledge": her marriage was over.
Instead of hiding in sadness and fear, she bravely decided in that moment to take the unexpected opportunity to re-invent herself at the age of 43 - and soldier on.Her then seven year old refused to continue with music lessons so Anna stepped in - and discovered that she had a voice! The last time sang was in a church choir when she was ten.
She continued singing as a way to cope and find hope while the end of her marriage was unfolding in all its ugliness.Music - jazz in particular - became a refuge and it gave her a voice, where she had none in her marital relationship for years.
She decided to secretly record an album which steeled her from the inside further and allowed her to leave the lonely "gilded cage" she was living in. The album, released in 2013, was appropriately called "Longing", as she was longing for love in her life.
Since stepping off that "ledge", Anna's life has completely changed. In addition to her career as a singer, Anna now produces private and public events, as well as the very successful "Jazz on Cedros" concert series in Solana Beach that has celebrated sold out shows since its inception in 2014 and has become San Diego's "jazz showcase".
She has sang The National Anthem at opening day of Del Mar Races three out of the last four years to crowds of 45,000 people! Anna is a true Renaissance woman who has used music as a springboard to become a motivational speaker, and is currently writing her first book, which chronicles her incredible journey from Poland to Canada and Southern California, through her careers as a lawyer, business manager and mom and the amazing unfolding of her musical artistry.
She is also an avid philanthropist for causes that support women, children and the arts, with a seat on the board of the San Diego Symphony.Anna recently recorded "Find Your Wings," her second full-length jazz album, at the legendary Capitol Studios in Hollywood in 2015, where previously all of her musical heroes like Sinatra and Nat Kind Cole, held court.
Half the songs on the album are her personal stories. As she was ready to release the album in the summer of 2016, she found out that she had breast cancer, but did not let it bring her to her knees and soldiered on again, ending up at the top of the jazz charts shortly thereafter! The album has gathered wide critical acclaim, debuting at #1 on the iTunes Jazz Charts and Top 25 on Billboard's main jazz chart and has received wide radio play in the US and abroad.
And in February of 2018, as she was ready to break out on national TV, Anna's breast cancer returned. She once again bravely faced it and is on her way to a full recovery - and remains unstoppable in her journey!She hopes to empower people - especially women - with her story and her songs to pursue their passions.
The title track off the album, "Find Your Wings," has an encouraging message: by facing your fears - in ANY challenge - you can break out of your cage, find your wings, FLY and transform your life. Stepping outside of her gilded cage - and her cage of self-doubt - Anna realized there is nothing better than a life lived with true purpose and passion, and being true to yourself.
