Prior to his work as a filmmaker, Alan was the Austin Bureau Chief for the ABC Affiliate in Dallas, WFAA-TV. Alan won more than 20 awards during his 15-year career as a journalist, and was twice named by the Associated Press as the Best Reporter in Texas.

Alan's a University of Texas at Austin graduate and has taught for the UT School of Journalism. He serves on the Northwestern University Documentary MFA Mentorship Board. Alan is the Board President of the Society for the Preservation of Texas Music, an Austin-based 501c3 that produces music-based film content as well as the Austin Music Awards.
